This wall mounted chalkboard is unlike any I've seen before. When I think of a chalkboard, I think of those Fisher Price blue easels with a chalkboard on one side and a large pad of paper on the other. Either that or I think of a 3rd grade classroom with lessons of long division scattered all over the place. I never really thought a chalkboard could be an upscale fixture. I have been proven incorrect.

For Valentine's Day, my lovely fiance gave me a day to myself (a little contrary to Valentine's Day tradition, but he knows what I like). I woke around 8:30 to $250 getting shoved in my face, and being ordered to leave the house immediately. I had an appointment at Blue Sky, the local spa, from 9:30 to 5:00 (oh my god, almost 8 hours, that's like my JOB for the day was to get pampered...incredible). I eagerly accepted, thanked him, brushed my teeth, gave my daughter a kiss goodbye, and stepped on it. I would make this last as long as humanly possible.

After arriving, the day started with a relaxing cup of chamomile tea and a full body massage. Then, one of the most relaxing experiences of my life. They call it an aromatherapy session, but I call it 45 minutes to myself, or a nap (you decide, but in either case, an extremely rare treat). Basically, they send you (in silk pajamas!) into this small, tranquilly-decorated room. I'm sure you can picture it: the sound of waves crashing, candles lit, the smell of freshly warmed lavender essential oil wafting throughout, a soft bed, warm temperature, lots of pillows. I'm sure you understand. Anyways, I was struck by something on the walls. It was a wall mounted chalkboard. Now, I was not struck by the fact that it was completely out of place in such a relaxing and tranquil environment, but to the contrary, I was struck by how nice it looked. I was surprised that something so...industrial, I guess you could say, was in this beautifully relaxing environment, but was adding to the vibe, not taking away from it. The beautifully crafted chalkboard spoke a simple message:. It was so easy to obey. I gave up, I was in heaven and I needed to feel like this more often. Chris had a job to do; build me this room in our house. I had a job to do; decorate this room in our house.

And so the search began. I had no trouble finding most of the items to outfit my new in-home retreat. I was having trouble, however, finding the perfect wall mounted chalkboard. This was to be the 'piece de la resistance' of the room. It was my initial inspiration and I needed it to be perfect. I scoured the web, local retailers, department stores, those stores for teachers that sell "Excellent" or "A+" stickers and huge wall maps of the U.S., but it was hopeless. I love sushi. Not the raw kind, only cooked sushi. For the longest time, though, my boyfriend was repulsed by most types of seafood, especially sushi. One night recently, we went to our favorite Japanese steakhouse, which happens to have a sushi bar. Its a small place, but the food is amazing. I knew he'd close his eyes for a kiss. As he leaned in, I opened his mouth with one hand and shoved the roll in his mouth. Much to my surprise, he didn't spit it out, which I was very thankful for. Instead, he chewed it and swallowed. Then, I asked, "Well, what did you think?!" To which his response was, "What was that? It was delicious!" Before I could even answer, he stared up at the wallmount chalkboard and ordered one of each of the sushi specials. I tried to warn him that one of the specials was raw eel, but he didn't listen. He wanted to try it. It was a miracle! I never knew a wallmount chalkboard could have such an effect on someone!
