I know I know, you’re thinking to yourself “how in the world can a menu holder save lives?” Well that’s why I am writing this blog. Clearly this is a characteristic unbeknownst to the average person, which I shall reveal for all to embellish its glory.

I went to this family-run restaurant the other day on a blind date, with whom I was set up with by a mutual friend. We were clearly not meant to be together as his love of hunting and sky-diving would not blend well with my vegan ideologies and relatively safe, unadventurous existence. Hey, I’m a daredevil sometimes; I have been known to wear flip flops on the subway! Anyways, so Monty and I were off to a slow start on our date when I noticed this awesome menu holder sitting on the table. I began to flip through its vinyl sleeves, each filled with a beautiful picture of decadent goodness. While Monty rambled on about skinning a live rabbit, I drifted off into a chocolately dream world…

My second encounter with the life-saving abilities of this menu holder was recently at a bar. I pretty much went as a wingman for my best friend, Judy. She had broken up with her girlfriend of over 6 years and was finally ready to see what else was out there. So we went out a lesbian bar to have a few drinks, a few laughs and maybe find true love for my Judy. Well Judy certainly found someone she liked a whole lot and completely ditched me 2 hours into the night. There I was, alone at the bar of a lesbian nightclub. But then I found the menu holder, its black molded plastic glistening among the disco ball lights. Its vinyl sleeves were filled with elaborate cocktails and smoothie beverages. Again I was lost in the menu display’s trance…

Okay okay. So the menu holder didn’t truly save my life, but it did distract me during unbearable situations. And in the end, as a marketing tool, it was extremely successful because I did have Monty buy me a piece of the double chocolate cake and I received quite a few free drinks at the lesbian bar…So in a sense, it did save my life…

Flipcharts are a small, cheap and effective way to promote you dessert, beverage and special menu. Why is it so effective? Because its “in your face advertising”! Customers may think they don’t want dessert, but once they have flip thru the chart a couple of times frequently they find something that fancy their eye…next thing you know here comes the triple scoop sundae!
