Have you ever noticed how much power a good advertisement can have over you? I happened to notice on a recent trip to the local outlet mall. Shopping is my favorite thing to do, and when I go, I try to go with a purpose. If I don't I'll be there for hours, just walking around mindlessly. On my recent trip, I was wandering around window-shopping, when I saw this advertisement hanging in the window. Thought it was in the heat of the summer the advertisement said "Step into Fall", showing these awesome fall shoes. After seeing that hanging snap frame in the window, I had to go inside to check out the fall shoes. Inside, the hanging snap frame had another advertisement displayed, as it was double-sided. The inside advertisement was advertising their clearance items, now at 75% off! That was like giving them away. I ended up leaving with 1 pair of shoes from the clearance section and 3 pairs of shoes for the fall. On my way out, I looked at the hanging snap frame again, and realized all 3 pairs of shoes in the ad were the ones I had bought! I was instantly upset, feeling like I had been brainwashed. I stormed back into the store, and asked to speak to the manager. After she was done laughing at me, and how upset I was, she said "Honey, you wouldn't believe the amount of traffic this store has gotten since we added that hanging snap frame. Its like people never noticed us before. And you're not the only one to feel brainwashed. But that is the power of advertising!" I left the store in disgust, but kept telling myself I had really gotten a good deal on all 4 pairs of shoes. Next time, I'm going to ignore the hanging snap frames!
