My mom is one of those people that sees dishes, and vases and knick knacks she likes, and buys them. Doesn't matter if she has a place to display them or put them. If she sees something she likes, consider it sold. Our attic, spare room and garage have all turned into storage areas for all of her themed dishware, holiday items, knick knacks and expensive vases. I said to her recently, after almost falling out of the attic when tripping over a huge pile of dishes (never been used mind you), "Why don't you just get a large curio cabinet to display some of this nice dishware? Its not doing us any good in piles everywhere!" Her response was "Those curio cabinets are always sooo expensive. And besides, I'd need at least 4 or five curio cabinets to display all of the dishes and things I have." I thought to myself, time to do a little research. I knew there had to be a company out there that made affordable curio cabinets.

After a little web surfing, I came across this company called DisplayCases.us.com. They had a really nice line of curio cabinets. They even sold Howard Miller curio cabinets, which are really expensive. But I did stumble across curio cabinets from another company on the site, by Morrison-Hewitt. I'd never heard of them before, but the prices on the website seemed really affordable and the craftsmanship seemed equal or even better to that of the Howard Miller curio cabinets. Without even telling my mom, I went ahead and purchased one of the curio cabinets, a fairly large one about 45"w which I thought would be able to display a good portion of my mom's stuff. I had it delivered on a day I knew she wouldn't be home, and set up a bunch of her favorite dishes and vases. When she came home, she was so surprised. She exclaimed, "Oh my goodness. This is just too much! This must have cost you a fortune. I'm going to have to up your rent if you have this much money to spare!" When I told her it didn't cost nearly what she probably thought it did, she still insisted on charging more rent. And here I was thinking I was doing a good thing...

Curio Cabinet or Display Case

Sku# 680445 Buy Now
“I need a curio cabinet.” Those were the words my dad said when he moved in with me. And he wasn’t kidding. He was ok with sharing our space and becoming one more of the Macedo clan, however he wanted to display, and most importantly safeguard, his most precious belongings: Mom’s pictures, her Lladró collection, old family heirlooms, and so forth. So we started looking. I knew I wanted something big enough to house everything, but I also wanted to buy a nice piece of furniture.
After looking around for a while a friend told me about this Howard Miller curio cabinet and as soon as I saw it i knew it was going to be perfect! It’s big, 42¨wide x 78¨h, it has 4 adjustable shelves and a mirrored back and top halogen lights- perfect for showcasing mom’s figurines- and the door slides in both directions for easy access. Something I hadn’t considered, but think is a great feature is the floor levelers. Our home is not very level, but the floor levelers keep the unit solid and stable. I wanted to share my story and hopefully help you find the right curio cabinet, also known as trophy case, for you. Along with this display case, I also saw many similar ones at the same site. Howard Miller Curio Cabinet

Sku: 680412

A few years ago, we bought this beautiful Howard Miller curio cabinet to display some of our most precious "knick-knacks" and collectibles. Our mantle was getting a little cluttered, and we needed to do something about it. But because our living room was kind of small, we never really thought about purchasing a curio cabinet because I thought we didn't have the room. Boy, was I wrong!

Howard Miller curio cabinets come in a range of sizes and finishes to coordinate with any decor. Our living room has all of this dark wood furniture in it, and I was really particular about finding a curio cabinet that would match our existing furniture. This Howard Miller curio cabinet was exactly what we needed. Its rich, dark coffee finish coordinated beautifully. I get comments on how lovely it looks all the time. I would recommend a Howard Miller curio cabinet or any of their trophy cases to anyone!

Wall Mounted Cabinet by Howard Miller

SKU: 685100 Buy Now

So we purchased this curio wall cabinet for my mom last December and boy does she love it! She had been admiring Howard Miller designs for many years, but never wanted to splurge on herself. No matter how much we tried to explain to her that the high-quality materials and craftsmanship would make such a purchase worthwhile, she still refused to treat herself. After a broken shelving unit and numerous holes in her walls, we finally decided that it was time to spoil her with the Vancouver display unit.

This display cabinet matches Mom’s dining room décor impeccably! Its Windsor cherry finish fits in with her dark wood furniture, yet the mirrored backing draws light in, highlighting her precious collection of crystal figurines. When she wants to dust her displays, all she has to do is swing open the hinged front door. There are even adjustable, glass shelves for when she wants to rearrange her entire collection. Currently she has it mounted on the wall behind our dining room table; however when Dad finally gets around to repainting the walls, Mom has the option of making it a countertop display! The curio cabinet’s base has a “no tip” design, making sure the weight of the unit is evenly distributed, therefore preventing it from tipping. Clearly this purchase was a great idea as Mom was ecstatic when the gift was unveiled. Unfortunately for us, it will be a tough gift to match for next year!
