Every time I go to the movies I get candy. Period. It doesn’t matter if I am on a diet, if I just ate, if I am fasting, I will ALWAYS get some form of chocolately goodness, when I go to a movie theater. It’s just part of the experience. Usually I do the “fill your own bag” station so that I can have a variety of candies for the same outrageous price as the extra-large bag of M & M’s or Reese’s Pieces. This way I can get the peanut butter cups, kisses and snowcaps all in one goody bag!

However, on my last trip to the theater I was thoroughly grossed out by what I encountered at the candy station. A small child, left unattended of course, was using the tongs to place individual candy pieces into his mouth. I’m not kidding. The entire scoop side of the tongs was in his mouth! Completely disgusted, I ended up getting a bag of popcorn, which of course was not half as satisfying. Neither was the movie as I was completely distracted by the child’s lack of sanitary value. Of course there are always one or two people who stick their hands in there, but the majority of the time people use tongs to keep their germy digits out of the goodies.

After the movie, I went straight home and found this incredible website which sells various candy dispensers, bagel bins and scoop tongs! For a little more than $20, I was able to purchase my own set of scoop tongs. They even come with a snap-on holster. (Of course it is nothing like a gun holster as they are not really meant for individual use, but it is still a really cool feature I wanted to point out.) Anyways, so now every time I go to the movies, I bring my scoop tongs with me. This way I can be certain that my candies are not “contaminated.” (I am completely aware that germs can get in there in many different ways and that my own personal set of tongs will not affect such a transition. However they give me piece of mind, which is all I was looking for.)
